Sisu Global to showcase Hemafuse in the Health, Wearables & Wellbeing category

BALTIMORE, Md., February 17, 2020 — Sisu Global, the medical device company for emerging markets, was selected as a finalist in the Health, Wearables & Wellbeing category for the 12th annual SXSW Pitch® (formerly SXSW Accelerator).

SXSW Pitch is the marquee event of South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference & Festivals (March 13 - 22, 2020) Startups Track, where leading startups from around the world showcase some of the most impressive technology innovations to a panel of hand-picked judges and a live audience. Out of the 937 companies that applied to present at SXSW Pitch 2020, Sisu Global was selected among the top 5 finalists for the Health, Wearables & Wellbeing category.

The two-day event will be held the first weekend of SXSW Conference & Festivals, Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15, on the fourth floor of the Downtown Hilton Austin, Salon D/E. The event will then culminate with the 2020 SXSW Pitch Awards Ceremony on Sunday evening, March 15, where winning startups from each category and a Best in Show winner will be announced and honored. Sisu Global will present among four other companies in the Health, Wearables & Wellbeing category on Sunday, March 15.

Sisu Global’s CEO, Carolyn Yarina, is looking forward to presenting at this year’s SXSW Pitch. “We are thrilled to be presenting our first portfolio product on this prestigious platform at the 2020 SXSW Pitch. Last year, we launched HEMAFUSE™, our first patented product that was designed in Africa, for Africa, to combat the chronic donor blood shortages across the continent. Sisu is working hard to bring this device to the people who need it most, and the opportunity to present our device on this global platform will help us in those efforts.”

HEMAFUSE™ is a handheld, mechanical medical device for intraoperative autotransfusion of blood collected from an internal hemorrhage, meant to replace or augment donor blood in emergency situations. The HEMAFUSE™ is a device that can support the donor blood ecosystem by providing an option for clinicians to salvage and recycle a patient’s own blood in cases of internal bleeding. This immediate access to blood can shorten the wait time to perform surgery, increase hospital efficiency, and provide access to blood where there may be no other option.
